The Twinings Story
For us, tea is more than just a drink. It's been part of our daily lives and that of generations of tea lovers for over 300 years.
Our story started in 1706, when Thomas Twining opened the House of Twinings in the old Tom’s Coffee House on London’s Strand. By 1717, it had evolved into London’s very first tea shop, then called the Golden Lyon. In an age of proliferate coffee shops, Twinings worked very hard to bring his love of tea to the people of London. The response, as we know now, was overwhelmingly positive.
More than 300 years later, the passion for tea is still here -and so are we. We still sell tea from Thomas's shop, and we still work hard to bring new blends to tea lovers. Now, we have over 300 varieties globally and our teas are drunk all over the world.
Our expert blenders (we've got more of them than any other company) taste more than 3,000 cups of tea every week. So you can be sure the next cup you taste will be every bit as good as the one yesterday or the day before.
